Rue La La Adds 175 Employees in Warehouse Transition (NICKI LOIZZI)

Rue La La has added 175 employees to its head count, bringing the total to more than 500.

The additions are employees at a Shepherdsville, Ky., warehouse that Rue took over Friday.

The warehouse was originally a multiclient facility that was leased by GSI Commerce, Rue’s prior parent. GSI was acquired last year by eBay Inc. for $2.4 billion.

Following the eBay acquisition, the fulfillment operations at the warehouse required by Rue were outsourced to GSI. The warehouse transition was part of a nine-month plan that originally had Rue taking over the lease on April 1. Part of that plan included transitioning those employees to Rue staffers.

Steven C. Davis, president of Rue La La, said, “The new employees are getting some benefit upgrades now that they have moved to Rue, such as incremental vacation days. They now get a day off on their birthdays, the same as all [other] Rue La La employees.”

Davis said the site is 400,000 square feet, which gives the company room to grow as it expands its business.

The company also has added new systems that allow it to move packages faster to customers, taking about one to two days out of the delivery timetable, according to Davis. He added that the company has improved its packaging, whether it is the type of box used, packing slips included or even personalization, such as hand-written notes to select members.

EBay retains a 30 percent stake in Rue, which is now under the Kynetic umbrella, owned by GSI founder Michael Rubin. Rubin bought back Rue from eBay. Two other businesses under the Kynetic umbrella, Fanatics and ShopRunner, have a similar structure.
