Hallmark acquires online company (Nicole)

Kansas City-based Hallmark Cards Inc. has acquired SpiritClips, a Los Angeles-based online video service and film production company.

Hallmark said SpiritClips, a startup founded in 2007 by Rob Fried, will give it a “new way to engage consumers in the digital world and a potential new channel of distribution for the brand.

The purchase price was not revealed. Both companies are privately held.

Fried is an Academy-award winning producer of such films as “Rudy” and “Hoosiers.” He will remain chief executive of SpiritClips, which produces “family-friendly” short films, documentaries and movies. The company will remain in California.
