Sears and J.C. Penny only 2 of 6 Companies Planning on not re-signing Lease

Sears is only one of 6 Illinois companies that are planning on closing their stores and laying off workers. Sears has announced the closing of its St. Charles store that employees over 75 full-time workers. The law in Illinois requires businesses to provide a 60 day advanced notice to the state of layoffs or plant closings.

J.C. Penny is also planning on not resigning the lease for their Springhill mall location in June. This will leave 139 employees without jobs.

Other upcoming layoffs include:

Marcal Chicago LLC manufacturing plant, eliminating 52 jobs.

Gendex Dental Systems, closing a manufacturing facility in Des Plaines, eliminating 75 jobs.

Packaging maker Temple-Inland, closing a plant in Northlake, eliminating 83 jobs.

Ivex Packaging Paper LLC, closing a paper mill in Joliet, eliminating 78 jobs.
